A new episode occurred at the beginning of the meeting of the Social Affairs Committee, with the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Sophia Zacharakis to ask the deputy of Niki, Nikos Papadopoulos to retract what he said yesterday commenting on the hand-wringing of a member of his party at the expense of an ND member of parliament inside the church. The minister, taking the floor, spoke of hate speech that is not consistent with the temple of the Republic. “I ask that he retract the statement he made yesterday. No one has the privilege to behave in such a way, our vote here is sacred,” he stressed.

Ms. Sugar he said characteristically: “Hate speech that is not consistent with the Temple of Democracy and is not consistent with any environment. I ask that he retract the statement he made yesterday, it is unacceptable, no one has the privilege to behave in such a way towards colleagues and cause reactions that we do not want to see towards anyone. Our vote is sacred, there is no need to apologize…I cannot accept that members of parliament can foster such a climate especially before the next few days when we all go to our constituencies…I would say the same for anyone.”

Her MP Victory, although he retracted what he said yesterday, he spoke of “legislation against nature and the Holy Bible and for this you collect the arguments”. As he characteristically said: “I am very sorry for Ms Sugar confirms the characterization they have given to ND, that of editing. I was clear, I said that we unequivocally condemn any act of violence, even to animals and plants. At NIKI we are Greek, Orthodox Christians and we do not want anyone to enter such paths. I have spoken with pain of heart to prevent what is happening….when you legislate against nature, orthodoxy and holy scripture, you reap the rewards. That’s what I told you. What do not you understand;”.

In fact, when the minister read in detail yesterday’s statement of the MP, as recorded in the minutes with the president of the Committee, Vassilis Oikonomou, commenting “Oh, that’s how you said it” and Mr. Papadopoulos, answering “ND editor”.

From the side of SYRIZA, Katerina Notopoulou stated: “We condemn any attempt to incite violence inside and outside Parliament, united against incitement to violence. They will find us all united against the attempt to incite violence and the restriction of the free opinion of the parliamentarians”. The deputy of Niki also took the floor, Nikos Vrettos, saying: “NIKI represents nothing but its voters. We must not suffer the fear of ND”.
