The Deputy Mayor of Health and Welfare, Vivian Samouri, representing the Municipal Authority, attended the event, with the theme: “Childhood obesity in the foreground – good practices”, held yesterday afternoon at the “Epikentro”, by Apostolos Vantarakis, Professor of the Department of Medicine of the University of Patras, responsible for the European program for the improvement of children’s health.

The Deputy Mayor, in her brief greeting, conveyed the greetings of the Mayor of Patreon, Kostas Peletidis, and made special mention of the great, world-renowned professor of Pediatrics and Pediatric Endocrinology, George Chrousos, who was a speaker at the conference, stressing that “it is our great pleasure and honor every time he is in our city”.

He then stated the following: “Today’s meeting is of particular value, because it primarily attempts to put one of the persistent, intractable health problems, with epidemic proportions, at the center of the public debate. It is known that childhood and, by extension, adolescent overnutrition has been a scourge for decades, which has its roots in the dominance of the Western nutritional model, even in the countries that gave birth to the so-called Mediterranean diet, which includes our country. To deal with the tidal wave of childhood and adolescent obesity, the only possible options are prevention and, above all, early intervention. Good luck at the event.”
