According to the Time and date website, April’s full moon is named after pink phlox wildflowers which are endemic to North America and often bloom this month.

According to the Farmers’ Almanac, these wildflowers attract butterflies that herald the arrival of spring.

The April full moon has other names:

The Moon That Breaks the Ice
The Moon of plants and shrubs
The Moon where the currents are buoyant again
The Moon showing the red grass
The Frog Moon

The meteor shower from the tail of Halley’s Comet called the Eta Aquariids will peak in the morning hours of May 4 when the waning crescent moon rises just before dawn, meaning that the particularly dark sky will allow astronomers to see even the faintest shooting stars.

The phenomenon will be best visible in the southern hemisphere.

The next full moon, also known as the “moon of flowers“, will reach its peak on May 23rd.
