Five investigators will take over the investigation after prosecution. Specifically, the case will be handled by the 9th investigator with assistants on the 22nd and 17th, the 2nd juvenile investigator and the 4th drug investigator.

Key to uncovering the criminal group responsible for the planning, organization and execution of the incidents outside the Melina Merkouri stadium, on the 7th of last December, is proven by the testimonies of three people who were present that night at the stadium, but also by what followed afterwards and resulted in the murder of the MAT police officer, Giorgos Lyggeridis. These three persons, included in the 384 brought that night, have been placed under witness protection status.

As argued in the case file, specific persons, from TYRA 7, who call themselves “organized” had formed a group with the purpose of committing crimes. On the critical evening of December 7th, as described in the case file and according to testimonies, around 150 organized fans, after the first set of the Olympiakos – Panathinaikos volleyball match, left the stadium and gathered on Alexandrou Papadiamantis Street. There they set up barricades and set fires in bins, creating a scene of incidents and actually causing the intervention of the police forces. Olympiakos fans were uniformly dressed in black, most with their faces covered with full face hoods and having been procured in advance by the organizers of the incidents Molotov cocktails, naval flares and even stones were hurled at the police. During these attacks, Giorgos Lyggeridis was mortally wounded.

“While the injured Deputy Warden was on the ground, one of the fans activated and threw an improvised explosive device towards him which exploded near him and wounded him in his right leg,” the pre-investigation file states characteristically. As it is added, a second police officer was injured and was taken to the hospital that night. During the attacks, the hooligans threatened them with phrases such as “we have a war, cops, we will kill you all”, “New Smyrna needs you again”, “they will find you all cold”.

According to the police, a total of 160 people, all from Thira 7, are involved in the criminal organization that was investigated. Of these, 67 have been arrested, while according to the case file, their activity begins at the beginning of 2019.

The police operation that followed after the murder of Giorgos Lyggeridis was named “Damokleios Spathes”. The case file concerns all 160 defendants and a specific role is attributed to each of them in the criminal organization, as well as specific action and crimes, as the case may be. In total, yesterday morning searches were carried out in 87 houses, cars and other places and a lot of evidence was seized that declares the organized action of the accused. Weapons are also included among what was found in the possession of certain persons.

It is noted that on the night that Giorgos Lyggeridis was murdered, there was no reason for the attack on the police forces, except that one day earlier it was the 15th anniversary of the murder of Alexandros Grigoropoulos. According to the police, in fact, the hooligans “wanted to continue the attacks they carried out on 03/12/2023 at the Panthessaliko Stadium, shortly before and immediately after the end of the Volos – Olympiacos match.

On the night of the Lyggeridis murder, according to testimonies, video footage and other evidence, a group of 34 people had gathered outside the G. Karaiskakis stadium, where they remained for about an hour. From there, outside the stadium, they loaded munitions: naval and hand flares, Molotov cocktails and took them to the Melina Merkouri stadium. In fact, two of the alleged leaders of the organization, M.X. and P.K., instructed three specific persons to supply themselves with gasoline, while one of the two executives sent another member to his house to get dynamite. It is noted that all 34 people who went to Karaiskakis, preparing the episodes they had planned and decided to cause, have been identified.

The case file identifies both the physical perpetrator of the Lyggeridis murder – who has already confessed to throwing the naval flare and has been remanded in custody – as well as the moral perpetrators. These are five people, I.A., M.X. P.K. A.T. and LK., who, according to the indictment, “intentionally provoked the decision of the perpetrator to fatally injure George Lyggeridis”. In fact, one of the leading executives, M.X. he allegedly also participates in the “Western Falsehood” organization, which is considered the toughest organization with attacks on police officers.

However, what emerged during the investigation in the 4.5 months between the murder and the mass arrests yesterday, was how the Door 7 hooligans’ criminal organization was set up.

The purpose of the organization, which has been active for at least five years and had an organizational structure and distinct roles, according to the police, is to commit crimes. As reported, followers of Gate 7, who call themselves “organized” formed an organization an operationally structured and continuously active organization, consisting of more than three persons, which seeks to systematically commit more felonies and misdemeanors and in particular explosions and arson from which a danger to people and foreign objects may arise, manufacturing and possession of explosive and incendiary materials, bombs and devices (perpetrated also during participation in public gatherings), homicides committed and attempted, dangerous bodily harm, theft, robbery, extortion, damage to foreign property, violence against employees, disturbance of the public peace, illegal possession and use of flares, flares and firecrackers as well as flare launchers. The above intended crimes are committed with a sporting background or on the occasion of sporting events and with mainly fan motives, i.e. either as an expression of dissatisfaction and protest against unfavorable for OOlympic match results and refereeing decisions, either as a means of intimidation and display of superior strength/power against fans of different teamsof”.

As noted in the case file financial benefits associated with the action of at least some of the organization’s members were also identified, as detailed below.
The activity of the criminal organization takes place mainly in Attica, but there are also cases where, on the occasion of matches of the Olympiakos team outside Attica, criminal acts were committed in other cities of Greece, such as Volos and Ioannina
».

Describing the organization, the case file states that “the visible structure of the organization includes the leading members, whom the younger or junior members recognize as the head of “GATE 7”, call them “BIG”, and submit completely to their will and orders, and the so-called “LITTLE”, i.e. people of young mostly aged, usually 16 – 24 years old, who are junior members used by the leadership group mainly as a strike force and to achieve numerical superiority when carrying out attacks.

According to the case file, eight members of the organization are the narrow leadership core. In fact, most of them have or had an official relationship either with PAE Olympiacos or with the municipality of Piraeus.
