European elections 2024: Who is the ND MEP candidate, Theofilos Karachalios

THE Theofilos Karachaliosprofessor and director of Orthopedics at the University General Hospital of Larissa and president of the Department of Medicine, School of Health Sciences of the University of Thessaly, Theofilos Karahalios is a candidate for MEP with the ND.

Who is Theofilos Karahalios?

Mr. Th. Karahalios was born in Loutraki, Corinth, in 1959. He attended the Boys’ Gymnasium of Ilioupoli, Athens (1970-1976). He completed his studies at the School of Medicine of the Greek Academy of Sciences (1976-1982). He specialized in the University Orthopedic Clinic, Nosok. KAT (1984-1989) and was awarded a doctorate by the University of Athens (1989). Retrained abroad at BRI, Bristol University, Bristol UK (1990-1992). He served as the NHS curator at the KAT Hospital (1992-1998). Elected assistant professor (1998) and professor (2011) of Orthopedics at the University of Thessaly. Today he is the director of the Orthopedic Clinic of Pan G.N. Larissa and President of the Department of Medicine, School of Health Sciences, University of Thessaly.

He has been president of EEMMO (2009-2010), and president of EEXOT (2015). He was Treasurer of the European Hip Society (2010-2018). In 2017 he became treasurer and in 2022 vice-president (president for the year 2025) of the European Federation of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology (after elections at the European level). Since 2017 he is the Editor of the international scientific journal Hip International.

Regarding political activity, he was a member of ONNED Ilioupoli Athens (1975-1982). Member of the DAP-NDFK in the medical student association (SFIA) 1976-1981. Head of the Organizational Division of Fokida (ND) from 2012 to 2014 and elected representative of a regional organization (Larissa Prefecture) in recent ND conferences. In the 2019 national elections, he was a candidate for parliament in the prefecture of Larissa with the ND.

In his free time, he is actively involved in tennis, long-distance roads and autonomous diving (master scuba diver). During the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, he offered voluntary service, as a doctor for athletes and competitions, at the athletics events (OAKA-Athens Olympic Stadium)
