Gasoline prices at gas stations have been on the rise in recent months – What the former president of the Association of Gas Stationers and Fuel Traders, Giorgos Asmatoglou, says to Newsbomb.gr

The pumps at the petrol stations have caught fire with the prices of simple unleaded and diesel motoring recording an increase, a trend that is expected – by many – to continue into Holy Week.

The former president of the Association of Fuel Store Owners and Traders, George Asmatoglou, spoke on the matter to Newsbomb.gr, stressing: “yesterday and today we have some small reductions, but don’t imagine that it will be immediately visible at the pump. After all, we did not see the reductions in international crude oil prices that had occurred in the previous period.”

He added: “No one can predict Easter. The general situation in the global market is very fluid. Today in Athens the average price of gasoline is 1.97 euros per liter and on the islands it reaches 2.30 euros/liter”.

He spoke about the issue yesterday at Newsbomb.gr and the president of Attica Petrol Dealers, Maria Zaga, mentioning, among other things, that when there are armed conflicts, the energy sector is greatly affected.

“Gasoline is increasing, oil is stable while there is also a small drop so far today. The average price in Attica and Thessaloniki for gasoline is 1.96 to 2 euros per liter which means that we can find it for more than 2 euros. It is also not possible when the wholesale price is over 1.85 euros to find gas stations that sell 1.80 euros and 1.85,” says Ms. Zaga.

He adds: “The increase has been going on for a long time. There was a bang with the war in Iran. With Israel’s counter-attack there was a spurt again but it quickly de-escalated. When there are war conflicts, the energy sector is greatly affected. Characteristic is the fact that since the war in Ukraine began, all balances have been overturned. And don’t forget that we have OPEC which until the end of June has reduced in order to keep prices high. They are games.”

Regarding Easter, Ms. Zaga noted that “I don’t want to make predictions, we’ll see at what prices we buy these days.”

The president of Attica Petrol Dealers, Maria Zaga, spoke to Newsbomb.gr.

Finally, regarding the islands, he informed us that: “prices have gone above 2 euros and reach 2.40 euros per liter. The most expensive are the Dodecanese and the Cyclades.”

KTEL – Coasters

Compared to last year, those who choose this means of travel pay more for KTEL tickets, with the increase being of the order of 9% from the beginning of 2024. This means probably benefits those who travel long distances and alone, as traveling for four people can cost more than by car. For example, Athens-Serres by KTEL costs 300 euros, while by car the cost reaches 248 euros.

And the ferry tickets, however, have caught fire, as the increases that came from the inclusion of shipping in the European emissions trading system force consumers to bear the burden of the “green transition” by paying more expensive tickets.

Thus, four people who will choose the nearby Andros for Easter will pay 300 euros by car, while if they choose Syros the cost will reach 569 euros. Of course, there is a big difference in the prices of conventional ships and high-speed ships, with the tickets of the latter being higher.

However, the cost is even higher for those who will choose to travel by air, unless they managed to book their tickets early by making use of some offer. What is certain is that whatever means of transport the Greeks will choose, they will have to put their hands deep in their pockets to spend Easter in their village or in some other destination outside the city.
