Mykonos: The mother of a civil protection officer is accused of arson through negligence

--

An officer of the civil protection of the Municipality of Mykonos got into some trouble as a close relative of his is about to walk through the door of the investigative office of the fire department and give explanations as she is accused of negligent arson and a fire that almost put the island of Mykonos in trouble.

It all started on Friday when a woman in her 60s set fire to her property to burn dry grass. The fire soon took on large proportions as it got out of control, causing it to spread over a large area and cause damage to adjacent plots of land belonging to foreign property and assets.

Immediately the fire department rushed to the scene where after some time they managed to bring the fire under control. No prevention from the political protection of the Municipality of Mykonos as it seems that not even the relatives of executives can apply the legal provisions…

A case file has been filed for the incident and all the people involved will go through the door of the fire department’s investigative office with the prosecution deciding the outcome.

In addition, with the Criminal Code, which was brought to the Parliament by the Ministry of Justice, the penalties from misdemeanor to felony for habitual arsonists are tightened with the penalties reaching 10 years in prison and fines of 200,000 euros.

For everyone’s information, the fire protection season has started from April 15th and any type of burning and hot work is expressly PROHIBITED.

Something they should have known and set a good example, as the fire fighting season in the North and South Aegean and Crete began with the decision of the Operations Coordinator for the North and South Aegean and Crete, Major General Georgios Tsikalas, and after a proposal from the Northern Fire Service Commands and South Aegean and Crete, due to the lack of rain and high temperatures for the season that favor the occurrence and spread of fires.

Violators will be punished with severe penalties. In case of fire, call 199 or 112 immediately.
