The New Left, on the initiative of Ioannina MP Meropis Tzoufis, brings to Parliament the case of unpaid workers in the field of mental health.

According to a complaint by the Athens Private Health Workers Union, the Urban Non-Profit Company (AMKE) “NEFES”, which owned the boarding school “PERSEAS” – Mental Health Structure until August 2023, had unpaid the staff of the boarding school for more than a year. More specifically, it is estimated that 27 employees are owed accrued wages, while the total amount of unpaid wages is estimated at approximately 300,000 euros.

Despite the repeated contacts of the workers and their trade union representatives with the political leadership of the Ministry of Health, there has been no concrete commitment for the payment of salaries. At the same time, the complaints are confirmed by the administrative audit findings of the National Transparency Authority.

With the filing of the petition, the Minister of Health is asked to answer whether he will ensure the payment of the accrued wages to the employees of the structure, if he deems it appropriate to implement stricter and more timely control in the AMKE of Mental Health, as well as if there is a plan of the Ministry of Health for the strengthening public mental health structures.
