“It has been proposed that saffron be included in the 2023 government financial support program, for 5,450 acres, due to a reduction in production and, as long as the conditions of the relevant C.Y.A. are met, it can be enhanced.”
This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food, Dionysis Stamenitis, responding yesterday in the Parliament, to a question by the Member of Parliament of Kozani of the PASOK – Movement for Change, Pari Koukoulopoulos, on the topic “The saffron producers of Kozani need immediate support”.
The Member of Parliament presented numerical data from the “Compulsory Cooperative of Shotgun Producers of Kozani” for the historical record of shrinking production and hectare yield in the last two years, as a consequence of the climate crisis.
Mr. Koukoulopoulos described the proposal to include saffron in the State Financial Support Program as an important development, however, regarding the overall measures he requested to be taken to support the product, he stated that the list of actions presented by the Deputy Minister do not directly or fully respond to the pressing needs of croc producers.
