He was released 56-year-old talk show host who was arrested in Thessaloniki and is accused of extorting two people after reports in a newspaper of a 39-year-old editor.
The defendant was remanded to stand trial at Autoforno Three-member Criminal Court of Thessalonikiwith the court to be postponed until January 2025, due to the abstention of the lawyers. After the case was adjourned, the court lifted the detention of the 56-year-old, who had been in the detention center since he was arrested on Saturday.
Criminal proceedings have been brought against him for attempted extortion for complicity and serially, while the same charges are also faced by 39 year old publisher who was not located by EL.AS. and thus was not arrested in the context of the autoforo. In his statements to journalists after the postponement of the case, Mr 56 years old he indicated that the charges against him belong to… someone else and not to him.
“I was arrested because my name was heard for no reason. I have nothing to do with all this (complaints). I told you and I make it clear. Most of the charges concern someone else and not me and by extension you have already seen and heard that on January 20th I will get rid of the charges, the minimal ones against me, which have absolutely nothing to do with the issue. All these charges are about someone else. I stress that to you,” he said, while denying any involvement with the extortion charge.
How the case unfolded
It is recalled that the case was revealed following a complaint 46 years old, according to which, at the beginning of April, he met in eastern Thessaloniki with the 39-year-old, after his mediation 56 years old (who was arrested by the spontaneous procedure), in order to help him in a personal matter. After an unsuccessful agreement between them, which included a monetary fee, the 39-year-old assisted by his alleged accomplice, demanded sums of money in order not to defame him in electronic and printed media. According to the information, Mr 46 years old he told the police that the two defendants asked him for money not to publish a “report” in the newspaper about a case of child molestation.
New complaint for extortion by a singer
Moreover, at his expense 39-year-old editor a case file was filed for the same crimes, following a summons submitted by a 44-year-old singer.
According to his complaint, the victim and the complainant met about ten days ago in the area of Vineyards and they agreed to help him professionally by advertising him online for a sum of money. Due to non-payment of one installment, 2,480 euros, from the pre-agreed amount, the alleged perpetrator threatened the 44-year-old and his friend who had mediated so that they could come into contact, that he would defame them, while he subsequently increased the monetary claim to 14,880 euros.
