The People’s Coalition of Thessaly filed a petition on the problems of the flood victims of Sotirios Larissa.

In detail, the question states the following:

“From our recent visit to the twice-flooded and destroyed Sotirios, we convey the indignation of its flood-affected and forcibly displaced residents, because the government, district and municipality, 8 months after the catastrophic floods, have abandoned them to their problems.

The vast majority of them no longer live in it, since most of the houses are destroyed and the compensations given to them were a pittance and not enough to buy new household appliances and repair them. Several of those who were forced to rent houses in neighboring villages or in Larissa, have not even received the meager rent allowance or only received it for a quarter.

And that’s not enough, the government has sent ENFIA invoices to several people, the municipality is sending them water bills, to the houses they don’t live in and notices to cut the grass on their plots, otherwise it threatens them with fines!

Most of the farmers cannot cultivate their fields this year, maybe for years to come, as many are still flooded, waiting in vain for the government and the district to remove the water, and others are pure mud, resulting in no income. .

And because many farmers, as well as from other villages, in order to survive, were forced to work as wage earners, they lose or risk losing 55% of the subsidies for their fields if they complete 120 days of insurance as wage earners !!!

The internal and rural road network of the village remains in poor condition.

Sotirio, like other villages in the area, as the affected residents testify, remain exposed to the risk of a new flood, since no substantial anti-flooding work has been done by the district in Gusbasaniotis, in the streams on the side of the Great Monastery, while a big problem creates the conversion of the drainage ditch that runs next to the village, into a water transport ditch from Pinios to Karla, with raised embankments that prevent the water from falling into it or towards the fields and pooling in the village, as happened in last year’s floods September.

The regional authority of Thessaly asks:

ü What does he intend to do to remove the flood waters from the fields around Carla?

ü To proceed immediately with all the necessary anti-flood works in the area (rehabilitation of Gusbasanioti dikes, cleaning of streams)?

ü If he intends to reactivate the ditch that passes next to the village as a drainage ditch and not as a water transfer ditch in Karla, by cleaning it, removing some dangerous embankments?

ü To restore the damaged roads?

ü Whether the necessary mosquito-killing sprays will be done on time and correctly? »

ü He will also take actions towards the government to compensate all flood victims 100% for the damaged household goods of each family, whether they were at home or in a warehouse, agricultural machinery and equipment, in the fields and in their production, for the repair of houses and restoration of fields, to abolish ENFIA for all flood victims?

ü To cover the lost income of all the flood-affected farmers for as long as they are unable to cultivate and so that not a single euro is cut from the subsidies for their fields, to those who were forced to work temporarily as wage earners to survive?

ü For the state to fully cover the rent of flood victims who cannot return to their homes?
