BlackRock estimates that the global transition to green energy will require investments of 4 trillion. dollars per year by the mid-2030s, which requires more public-private partnerships, especially in the Asia-Pacific region.

The forecast comes from BlackRock’s recent Investment Institute Transition Scenario, which analyzes how the transition to low carbon emissions is most likely to play out and its potential impact on investors’ portfolios.

The $4 trillion figure is double the previous expectation of $2 trillion annually and will require increases in both public and private sector capital, according to BlackRock’s head of APAC Alternatives Strategy & Capital Markets, Michael Dennis. “ARAC is really at the heart of the investment opportunity in the energy sector and we see this across many sectors, both in developed and emerging markets,” he said, speaking at Singapore’s annual Ecosperity Week.

Last year, $1.8 trillion was invested in projects related to the energy transition, up from $33 billion in 2004, and about $19 trillion has been invested year-to-date, according to data compiled by BlackRock.
