The island of Corfu welcomes the Olympic Flame tomorrow, before it is handed over to the host city, Paris, ahead of the “Paris 2024” Olympic Games.
According to the schedule, the Olympic Flame will arrive at 2.45 pm. It will follow the route of: Captain Spyros Vlaikos (Tafros N. Frouriou), Stamatiou Desyllas, Gerasimos Aspiotis (ORFEAS), Academy, Agonist Polytechnic University (Aktaion) and will end up in Kato Platia at 3.00 pm
The ceremony, which will follow, includes among others:
- A rendition of the Olympic Anthem and the National Anthems of France and Greece, by a mixed musical group of the four Philharmonics, namely: Old Philharmonic, “Mantzaros” Philharmonic Society, “Kapodistrias” Philharmonic Society and “Spyros Samaras” Philharmonic Society of Ano Korakiana.
- Arrogance of flags.
- Greetings from the Mayor of Central Corfu and Diapontian Islands Stefanos Poulimenos, representative of the French Embassy, and representative of the Hellenic Olympic Committee.
- Gift exchange.
- Cultural program.
The torchbearers who will carry the Flame are:
- Spyros Gianniotis, Open Sea Olympian.
- Maria Georgatou, Rhythmic Gymnastics Olympian
- Ioanna Bouziou, Olympic champion in softball
- Arsenis Tsiminos, World Junior Record Holder 2,000m. stippl
- Charalambos Theodosis, Champion in ice swimming
- Anastasia Mesimeri, disabled, has distinguished herself in swimming competitions.
The next day, at 8.00 am, the Olympic Flame will follow the route: Palace, Arseniou Street, where it will head to the new port for departure.
