Forty-eight days before the June 9 election and having completed the legislation of the main body of the reforms, which were included in the agenda of the government project, the government puts everyday issues at the top of its priorities. Punctuality, criminality, irregularities and chronic pathologies are “upgraded” with Megaron Maximos recommending their treatment.

In his barrage of visits to areas of Attica, such as Agios Dimitrios and the vegetable market of Rentis, Kyriakos Mitsotakis attempts to make it clear that inflationary pressures and accuracy are not only perceived as major issues, but also that the government is focused on finding solutions, which gradually have already started to pay off.

Particular emphasis is placed on measures that have come into force, such as the Godparents’ Basket, which includes among other things candles, Easter eggs and toys, as well as the Easter Basket, which is an extension of the Household Basket, with the addition of four new food categories, so as to be an additional outlet for consumers. In Megaros Maximos they recognize that the accuracy, which affects the incomes of households, is a permanent open front, a fact that is also reflected in the opinion polls, where it has been consolidated as the most important problem for the citizens.

Tackling crime, from juvenile delinquency and violence to tackling hooliganism on and off the pitch, has been at the forefront of recent times. The tragic murder of the police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis in Rentis, last December, was a milestone for taking measures at the stadiums, which have already started to be implemented. Four months later, the police, with a large operation, proceeded to arrest and bring in more than 60 people, as a result of the months-long investigation.

At the same time, the Ministry of Citizen Protection is planning the establishment of an Organized Crime Directorate with the aim of unifying, better interoperability and sealing services that currently operate autonomously, so that they have the highest expertise and power. The relevant bill is expected to be submitted to the Parliament in May and will provide for the inclusion of four sub-directorates in the new Directorate – Prosecution of Drugs, Crimes against Life and Property, Organized Crime and Sports Violence – while the possibility of direct cooperation with the AADE and the SDOE will be given .

With legislative regulations, controls, but also the implementation of decisions made, an attempt is made to bring order to the indecency on the islands, from the very beginning of the tourist season. Controls at tourist destinations are a central government decision, officials of the Maximos Palace point out, pointing out that the mandate of the competent Ministry of the Environment has already been given for them to begin. The data is typical, according to which, in Mykonos alone, the Building and Demolition Inspectors have visited 5 times from April 3, 2023 until today, with the aim of observing urban planning legality, respect for the natural and urban environment as well as the right of free access of citizens and visitors to the coasts.

The Inspectors carried out intensive controls to detect arbitrary construction in 13 businesses and one private project and monitored the demolition and compliance procedures (PRINCIPOTE, PASAJI, KUZINA, AEONIC SUITS & SPA, Alemagou, Superparadise, Lohan, Solymar, Santanna, Jakie-O Kastro Choras , Jakie-O Super Paradise in Plyndri, NAMMOS, SCORPIOS, Construction at the “Moroergo” location in Ftelia).

These three axes are part of the government’s policy to deal with everyday issues, with the aim of progressing alongside the strengthening of large and critical sectors such as Health – from building infrastructure to strengthening medical staff and changing the way the operation of hospitals, for example with the afternoon surgeries – and Education, where after the green light for the operation of non-state non-profit universities, the next day is now planned for primary and secondary education.

As pointed out, the “vehicle” for the promotion of all these policies is the European financial resources, but also the course of the Greek economy. Aware of the difficult international situation, which invalidates any forecast of the situations that the European governments will be asked to manage in the next period and seeking to utilize the positive momentum of the Greek economy, officials of the Maximos Palace noted that the further upgrading of the Greek economy from Standard & Poor’s – within a few months after Greece regained investment grade the “outlook” changed from stable to positive – is proof that the country’s efforts are leading to tangible results, but also a response to those who attempt to downplay the positive developments of the last five years.

The same executives emphasized that the recognition of the significant progress by all international organizations and rating agencies “does not make us complacent, but pushes us to continue the effort and promote all the necessary reforms that will lead the Greek economy even higher.”

This framework is essentially the framework of Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ pre-election speech. In addition to the prime minister, who continues his tours – today he will attend and speak at the event for the handover of the Lamia-Kalambaka section of the Central Greece E65 highway and then at the presentation on the restoration of the damage caused by the storms Daniel and Elias in Mouzaki Karditsa – the leading government officials are now joining the pre-election “battle”.

After a meeting led by Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the ND offices in Piraeus, the names of the ministers who undertake to shoulder the burden of the pre-election campaign by region were also announced: Kyriakos Pierrakakis takes over the Region of Crete, Makis Voridis the Region of Peloponnese, Christos Staikouras the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Nikos Dendias the Region of Central Macedonia, Dimitris Kairidis the Region of North Aegean, Adonis Georgiadis the Region of Western Macedonia, Kostas Skrekas the Region of Epirus, Kostis Hatzidakis the Region of Thessaly, Lefteris Avakis the Region district of Western Greece, Sofia Zaharaki for the Region of Central Greece, Olga Kefalogianni for the Region of the Ionian Islands and Domna Michailidou for the Region of South Aegean.
