The annual list of the most “smart” countries and the cities of the world for 2024 presented by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD), with Athens dropping seven points compared to 2023, occupying 120th place.

How “smart” a city is is judged on the economic and technological aspects of its development, on the one hand, and the “human” aspects of everyday life, such as the quality of life, the environment and civic participation.

The data collected by IMD they concern 142 cities from all over the world.

The first place in the list is held for the fifth year in a row by Zurichwhile in second place follows Oslo and in third the capital of Australia, Canberra.

It should be noted that European cities are in the top ten and they are completed by Canberra, Singapore and Abu Dhabi, which occupies 10th place.

In 120th place, the only participation of Greece

Disappointing is the position occupied by Athena, which compared to last year fell by seven places.

An important element in those cities that managed to “climb” in the ranking were those that showed greater care for the standard of living of their citizens, developing more green spaces and offering a multitude of cultural events, thanks to which people come closer.
