Presence of candidates from SYRIZA-PS, PASOK-KINAL, DEMOCRATS & DEMIOURGIA

The ruling faction was absent from the process, since both the invited guests could not come to the event

A pre-election debate for the European elections was organized by the student faction Independent Law of Komotini-ANOK, inviting 4 politicians from small and large parties to discuss controversial issues concerning the future of Europe. The event was attended by Nikolaos Farandouris, professor of European Law – MEP candidate with SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, Kostas Tsoukalas – labor lawyer – MP candidate with PASOK.-KINAL, Yiannis Vouros – actor, theater expert, former mayor of N. Philadelphia- N. Chalkidonas – MEP candidate with the DEMOCRATS party and Vangelis Aktsalis – President and MEP Candidate with the CREATION-#COMMUNITY_CITIZENS party. Absent from the proceedings was a representative of the ruling party, as both invitees canceled their participation in the event.

Konstantinos Vervessos, organizer of the event, representative of ANOK and fourth-year law student, informed that the issues analyzed at the event concerned the role of the MEP, the stakes and challenges of the EU in the next five years, the rise of the extreme right in Europe and the relationship of Association with young people.

The event was also attended by representatives of local organizations, who took the stage to inform about their action. In particular, representatives of the AMTH European Information Center, B-Hydrogen and the Share Life action spoke.

To make Greece a demanding partner
Nikos Farandouris stated that SYRIZA-PS is here with the fist of assertion, with the conviction that our country deserves a better position in the EU, more assertive and more inclusive. “We don’t like the government’s logic that we should be a silent and given partner in the EU. We want to be a reliable, demanding partner. Not a silent, poor relative,” he declared. He described the region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace as a region forgotten by the center, which he is committed to representing if he manages to secure a seat in the European Parliament.

The New Democracy government is arrogant
Kostas Tsoukalas emphasized that the stakes for the party are to advance the European project with strong progressive groups, as there are many major issues that need immediate resolution, but also to strengthen PASOK so that the country has a democratic opposition the next day in order to be able to threaten New Democracy in terms of victory. “It is a critical opportunity to change political affiliations to put an end to a government that is arrogant and a government that has failed to deal with the everyday lives of citizens,” he noted.

Evolution of Thanos Tzimeros
Vangelis Aktsalis, president of the CREATION CITIZEN_SOCIETY party, informed that the party is an evolution of the party founded by Thanos Tzimeros “Creation, Again!”, while he argued that it is the only truly liberal party and the only reliable political entity.

“Always with the good of the country in mind”
Yiannis Vouros emphasized that the part of the European Parliament is a higher part of dealing with the public. “I believe that with the experience we have gained we can convey any messages, problems, opinions, positions in a particularly successful way, always with the good of the country, the good of the homeland in mind. With priorities such as security, the purchasing power is gradually decreasing”, he pointed out for his party, DEMOCRATS.
