Not one, not two, but almost 50 employees of the General Directorate of Transport her Region of Attica, they change their post by decision of the Regional Governor, as part of his initiative Nikos Hardalia to put order in an agency that has given many negative examples of corruption and mismanagement.

So, in a hurry procedures and the seven managers of the General Directorate of Transport changed positions. Those charged with pending disciplinary offenses were transferred to other services of the Attica Region, while those prosecuted with charges of criminal offenses were placed on leave, even in cases where the opinion of the president of the Disciplinary Council was negative.

In the same direction, they moved to other positions 20 department heads, of which six for other services, as it turned out that their service record was not clean. They were also placed outside the Transport Directorate and 12 employees which he was accused of disciplinary offencesincomplete performance or indecent behavior towards the public.

“We are putting an end to opaque procedures and “bags”. By June, the procedures for the issuance of copies of driving and traffic licenses, as well as for the removal of withholdings, will be processed digitally only, while in the near future the same will happen with the transfer of vehicles as well as with the renewal of driving licenses, including digital medical records. At the same time, we are expanding the digitization of the procedures for obtaining a driver’s license in all the Regional Units of Attica, as in the next period the appointments – both for the theoretical and the practical examination – will be booked by the prospective drivers exclusively and only electronically”. Mr. Hardalias pointed out, after the end of the extraordinary meeting, with the Deputy Minister of Digital Governance, Konstantinos Kyranakis and the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christina Alexopoulou.

Create a “Smart Room”

The next steps of the Attica Region include the creation of a “Smart Room”, which will record data in real time. In that way:

• The experience and service of citizens is optimized, as on the one hand the requests submitted will now be monitored, in real time, per regional unit and on the other hand their comparative mapping becomes possible.

• Transparency is achieved and the removal of bureaucratic delays.

• The performance of the information systems themselves is optimized, as it becomes easy to capture the reasons why a request is “stuck” for a longer time than the average or in which regional unit a number of requests is observed, also greater than the average.

• The possibility for targeted interventions, per stage, as well as for speeding up the procedures in case any difficulties are identified in the completion of the requests is ensured.
