The decision to postpone the conclusion contract for elaboration of study for her work extension of the old beach towards the sea with the construction of a wooden platform, the so-called wooden deckreceived today by the Municipal Council of Thessaloniki during its meeting, as new financial data have emerged, according to what the deputy mayor of Technical Works, Environment and Sustainable Mobility reported, Precursor Nikiforidis.

The study project that was budgeted in 2.66 million euros will be postponed in order to seek the opinion of the appointed tender committee for the cancellation of the contract, because new financial data have emerged, said Mr. Nikiforidis.

Of the 2.66 million euros, the municipality of Thessaloniki had secured 484,000 euros and pending to identify another 2.17 million euros.

Now, we have committed significant resources equally distributed in the 2024 and 2025 budgets, the deputy mayor said and explained that with the new data for the financing of the study, resources will be released that will benefit other sectors of Thessaloniki.

The deck study project will be funded by the NSRF and in fact the same tool will also ensure the construction of the project, assured the deputy mayor.

“We will thus fully cover the cost of the study from the resources of the Ministry of Tourism. Thus, no additional municipal resources will be reserved for the study and the 2.17 million will be redirected to other projects. The study would be completed in 2026. Now we can very soon even within 2024 to tender the project“, Mr. Nikiforidis continued.

Therefore, the new proposal of the municipality will be returned to the Municipal Council and will have to receive the approval of the Court of Auditors, then emphasized the president of the Chamber, Spyros Vougias.

The head of the “Popular Rally” faction expressed caution. Vassilis Tomboulides for the administration’s argumentation that the project will cost less, while opposing the method of implementing the projects with the so-called design and construction, as such projects have been delayed for a long time to be completed with a “tragic example”, as he said, of the Thessaloniki metro. He also suggested that studies for projects of this scope, and others of a smaller scale such as playgrounds, be prepared by the municipality’s engineers in order to save resources and time.

THE Spiros Pegasushead of the faction “Thessalonica for All” stated that “we are stopping something with an intention to do it differently but having verbally secured some resources. The proposal of the construction study has tormented the city in the past and we should be cautious, if nothing else.”

Responding to what was heard, the mayor of Thessaloniki, Stelios Angeloudisreminded that the architectural competition lasted two years and when it was finished, the auction of the study began, which had a budget of almost 2 million, but this money does not exist. He mentioned that the reasoning of the previous administration of the municipality was “let’s start with the 484,000 euros from the Ministry of Tourism and along the way we will find the funds. And then two years for the study and three years for the construction. The well-known problem of the city that we plan projects and do not implement them”.

Then, Mr. Angeloudis stated that the project will be included in the NSRF and the municipality will gain more than 2 million euros and the process will be accelerated. “This money will be given to make it happen full pre-study and then the project will be joined to be studied and built” he added and summarized the benefits that the municipality will obtain from the model of simultaneous study and construction that will be adopted: “We are not giving the 2 million that we did not have from the previous administration, a project is included in the NSRF that will finance study and construction together and the process for construction on the first prize won in the architectural competition is being accelerated.”
