‘The Chapel’

The 9th Horrorant Film Festival Horror Nights awaits us to experience cinematic moments in his traditional home, the “Elyse” (April 18-28). 58 films from all over the world (divided into 6 sections), 4 official guests from abroad, 2 parties in honor of the guests, Cosplay event, an exhibition of horror and anime figures and the presentation of the 1st book of the festival “Horror on the screen”.

The opening film this year is in Spanish. THE Belen Rueda (“The Orphanage”, “Julia’s Eyes”) stars in “The Chapel” of the director of last year’s hit “Piggy”, Carlotta Pereda and comes to Horrorant with a nomination for Best Effects at the Goya Awards.

Ten days later, we will bid farewell to the festival with the “Drive”a suspenseful thriller from South Korea where an over-the-top influencer finds herself locked on the hood of a car.

The Department Horror Contest this year has 12 films that will challenge our endurance. Among them are the “You Shall Not Sleep Tonight” in a World Premiere, shortly before it was presented at the Cannes market, the “Pandemonium” from France, the “hard” “Body Parts” from S. Korea, the cinephile “My Mother’s Eyes” from Japan, the statement film “Empire V” from Russia who has a lot to say about the way of life as we have learned it in recent years, and the ultimate cult hit of the year, the “Monster on a Plane”.

The Department Panorama, as the etymology of the word reveals, broadens the horizons of the festival and includes films that go beyond pure horror, such as psychological thrillers, black comedies, action, fantasy, fantasy. The six films in the section, among which we find the long-awaited sequel to Skinford that we saw last year to a packed house, the dramatic thriller “Unspoken” co-produced by China and Canada, the Italian sci-fi “Black Bits” and the Spanish action “I’ll Crush You All”.

Horrorant supports new talent, new creators taking their first steps and that’s why the department First Look with productions by first-time directors has always been a favorite of the festival. This year we will discover 6 new productions, among them the hilarious “Clawfoot” from America with Franceska Eastwood, the paranoid “Hangar” from Italy and Argentina “Deus Irae”.

The tribute to Exploitation continues this year with three films from the past, in collaboration with Vinegar Syndrome: the “Massage Parlor Murders” (1973), the “The Boogey Man” (1980) and the “Angel” (1984).

This year the festival welcomes Lamberto Bava, who is coming to Greece for the first time, for a retrospective of his work. With him we will enjoy three films: the “Macabre” (1980), the rare “A Blade in the Dark” (1983) and the “Demons” (1985).

The French director will also be a guest of the festival Quarxx (“Pandemonium”), the German Ezra Tsegaye (“Monster on a Plane”) and the Russian Victor Gizburg (“Empire V”), who will present their films to the Greek audience of Horrorant.

The Horrorant Film Festival program includes 21 short films from abroad and 4 Greek productions.
