As every year, this year too, the band of the Old Philharmonic gives the musical opening kick of the Easter concerts of the philharmonic societies of our city, with the long-established Lazarus Saturday concert, on April 27, 2024.
The concert will take place at the Municipal Theater of Corfu and once again is characterized by the presentation of works heard for the first time in Corfu.
The soloist of the evening will be the excellent pianist Aphrodite Kogevina (who also has old family ties with the Old Philharmonic) performing the first part of Tchaikovsky’s famous “Piano Concerto” in a transcription for band. The fourth part from “Agreement no. 5” by the same composer.
For the first time, the famous “Valkyrie Gallop” from Wagner’s opera “The Valkyrie” will be heard.
The concert will end with another Corfu “first”, the biblical-themed symphonic poem for brass band “Moses and Ramses” by the Japanese composer Satoshi Yagisawa, offering another original work for band. The regular concert will also feature works by the chief musician of Palea Petros Karavana and arrangements of compositions by Beethoven, Herold and Khachaturian.
The established concert of the Old Philharmonic on the Saturday of Lazarus at the Municipal Theater will start at 20:30 exactly and will have free entry.
