A gruesome story was revived today (22/04) in the courtrooms in Ioannina, where a 44-year-old Albanian man who allegedly murdered a 23-year-old compatriot sat in the dock.
It is shocking and chilling that he allegedly fractured his skull, handcuffed him and threw him into a stable where he worked as a caretaker, while sleeping next to his bones for 4 whole years.
It all started on Christmas Eve 2007, when the 23-year-old was martyred by the 44-year-old, who to this day denies any involvement in the case, according to the Star. The crime was revealed 4 years later, on May 5, 2011.
The 23-year-old’s skeleton, according to the case file, was discovered when snow “fell” in the area, resulting in a problem with the roof of the stable. Then, a worker who attempted to fix the roof was confronted with the shocking find.
The 44-year-old had initially testified as a witness, but later turned into a defendant, as he was the last person to see the 23-year-old, while the skeleton was found next to his stable.
In fact, the 23-year-old’s skull was fractured, and from this element the medical examiner discovered that it was a murder.
“Indeed, the bones of this particular man had been found next to my accused and principal. There was no other evidence. He had said from the beginning that it has nothing to do with it. The issue is that he was convicted in absentia in Albania for the same offence, sentencing him to 18 years in prison. This was discovered today during the process. He was tried, without knowing it, and now he will be transferred to Albania. He himself was arrested 11 months ago and was remanded in custody in Larissa,” the 44-year-old’s lawyer, Alexandros Papaioannidis, tells Star.
