The innovation marathon “Hackathon for Health and Wellness Crete 2024” was completed with great success

The “Hackathon for Health and Wellness Crete 2024”, which was implemented simultaneously in Heraklion and Athens, on April 20 and 21, 2024, was completed with great success.

The Hackathon for Health and Wellness Crete 2024 was an initiative in which businesses, start-ups, civil servants, research and student groups joined forces with the aim of developing innovative applications that will improve processes and services in the field of Health and Wellness, both in the Public Sector and in Small and Medium Enterprises. 17 teams from all over Greece competed in the Innovation Marathon. Congratulations to all teams for their efforts to develop and present an innovative and sustainable idea.

It was co-organized by the Region of Crete / Observatory of Innovative Entrepreneurship, the Foundation for Research Technology (ITE) / Science and Technology Park of Crete, the University of Crete, the Athens Startup Incubator/Accelerator (THEA) of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (E .B.E.A.), the European Digital Innovation Hub for Smart Health: Precision Medicine and Innovative eHealth Services (smartHEALTH), the European Digital Governance Innovation Hub (GR digiGOV-innoHUB) and Elevate Greece

The Competition was held under the auspices of the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Digital Governance, and the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation

With much emotion and enthusiasm, the awards ceremony took place on the afternoon of Sunday 21/04, hybridly in Heraklion and Athens.

The event was welcomed by the Deputy Minister of Development, Maximos Senetakis, the Regional Governor of Crete, Stavros Arnautakis, the General Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, Dimitris Kirmikiroglou, the President of the Technology and Research Foundation, Nektarios Tavernarakis and the member of the Board of Directors of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Theofanis Matsopoulos.

Prizes were awarded to the three highest scoring teams selected by the Jury. The awards were accompanied by cash prizes (€3,500, €1,800 and €700 for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively), as well as honorary gifts from the Science and Technology Park of Crete (ETEP of Crete), the Athens Start-up Business Incubator/Accelerator ( T.E.A.) of E.B.E.A. and the Hellenic Digital Health Cluster (HDHC)

The 1st Prize was awarded by the Regional Governor of Crete, Stavros Arnautakis and the Deputy Minister of Development, Maximos Senetakis to Group 411, a newly established company Grandmama, with members Vicky Klimis – Chief Executive Officer, Giorgos Livas – Chiet Technology Officer, Vasia Kontou – Chief People Officer, who participated from the site of the Thermokoitida / Athens Youth Business Accelerator THEA (Athens). Their idea is for a comprehensive solution to connect the elderly, disabled and patients with specially trained and reliable caregivers and nurses through a digital platform.

The 2nd Prize was awarded by the Regional Governor of Crete, Stavros Arnautakis and the General Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, Dimitris Kirmikiroglou, to the Group 420 newly established company MEDIPASS, with members of Effie Salta – Co-Founder | UX and Alex Mitsis – Software Engineer, who participated from the Athens Incubator / Startup Accelerator THEA (Athens). Their idea concerns fertility care through an innovative platform.
The 3rd Prize was awarded by the Regional Governor of Crete, Stavros Arnautakis and the President of the Technology and Research Foundation (ITE), Nektarios Tavernarakis, to Group 431 of the small and medium-sized enterprise Physiopal, represented by Yiannis Tsouvalakis – Physiotherapist. Her concept focuses on the elderly, convalescents performing physical therapy exercises and beginners.

Non-monetary prizes were also awarded, relating to services from the Science and Technology Park of Crete (STEPC) of the ITE, the Incubator / Accelerator of Startup Businesses of Athens (THEA) and the Cluster HDHC to the following competing Teams:

In the Group with the distinctive title Mobile application, for self-management of PAN (Submission No. 432) services from STEPC
In the Group with the distinctive title Tracking and inventory management system with RFID, General Hospital of Heraklion “Venizelio-Pananeio” (Additional submission number 418) services from STEPC.
In the Dermacare Group (Submission Accession No. 403) services from STEPC.
In the Group with the distinctive title grandmama (Additional submission number 411) services from THE.EA.
In the Group with the distinctive title medipass (Additional submission number 420) services from THE.EA.
In the Group with the distinctive title PhysioPal (Additional submission number 431) services from THE.EA.
In the Dermacare Group (Submission Accession No. 403) services from the HDHC Cluster.
In the Group with the distinctive title Registry of Patients with Chronic Autoimmune Inflammatory Diseases (Submission Accession No. 417) services from the HDHC Cluster.
Also, a Commendation was awarded by the General Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, Dimitris Kirmikiroglou, to the most distinguished Group of Public Servants, namely:

In the Group with the distinctive title Inventory tracking and management system with RFID, General Hospital of Heraklion “Venizelio-Pananeio” (Submission number 418).
