The director of EMY, Thodoris Kolidas, spoke about Foen-type winds, on the occasion of the weather forecast for the next few days.

Th. Kolydas said that tomorrow, Tuesday, the temperature may rise even more and even exceed 30 degrees, especially in areas that will not be affected by the locally strengthened downward winds, type Foen.

Marousakis: Dust, muddy rains and heat from today – What will the weather be like at Easter?

“Many times we have seen comparable or even greater differences of 16°C between North-West Greece and Southern Island areas, especially in cases where strong downwind southerly winds prevail. Of course, we are not referring to something “unprecedented”, such as e.g. for today’s 28 °C in Heraklion and 11 to 12 °C in the northwest.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, we may catch even higher prices (the 30s), but it won’t be much, as reported in the press. These prices will be limited mainly in Crete, or where the locally strengthened Foen-type descending winds will again play an important role,” wrote Mr Kolidas specifically.

The previous post about the source of the African dust

Earlier, with another post, the meteorologist had analyzed another parameter related to the African dust, the presence of which is expected to be strong tomorrow.

Specifically, Mr. Kolidas states in his post:

“ARALI AS A SOURCE OF DUST – CAN THIS DUST COME TO OUR REGION?

The Aral Sea, or at least what is left of it, is located in central Asia, between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Its name means “the lake of islands” and was given to it because of the more than 1500 small islands that were once scattered around it.

Today, only fragments remain of what was once the fourth largest lake in the world. As the Aral Sea has turned into a desert known as the Aralkum, soil from the dry lake bed has added to the dust swirling over Central Asia.

Part of the dust may also reach our country. More in the following article.”

The Kolyda forecast for Easter

“The temperature deviations in the lower layers of the atmosphere (at the level of 850 hPa, at a height of 1,500m from the surface) show us that after the noticeable drop in temperature since Thursday, the weather will warm up again, heading towards Easter. But there won’t be big temperature extremes, like the ones we experienced the previous 15 days,” Thodoris Kolidas also wrote on Platform X last week.
