At the regular meeting of the Tripoli municipal council, on Monday afternoon (22/4/2024), initially Maria Fragou requested that a main road in Tripoli be named “Nikos Gatsos” as well as the road leading to his house, in Asea. The Mayor replied at the moment his name is on the street of the Music School” A bigger street should be named Nikos Gatsos and my opinion is Washington Street. Let’s decide at a next council.”
The Vice President of the Municipal Council Dimitris Koskinas asked the President to be very careful with sending issues to the urgent meetings. While, he then spoke about the crossings in the city of Tripoli.
Ilias Angelakos said that the decision on the table seats was again canceled and the manipulations of the municipal authority are to blame. The Mayor replied that dozens of such decisions have been approved and suddenly they start to be cancelled. We will file our objection and see what the competent committee will decide.
Sotiris Papadimitriou raised the issue of educating young children on the occasion of the jobs that are opening with the pharmaceutical industries. Regarding the strays, he said that the improved image is also due to our own administration, which took action at the time for both the strays and the garbage. The Mayor replied: “The process will begin in the schools of the municipality to inform the children about the specialties requested by the pharmaceutical industries. Yiannis Troupis said that “I want us to look at the development of our municipality. Obviously, mistakes will be made, obviously the elected want the good of the country. To be original and to become a point of reference for other municipalities, as you said about DEVAT. Let’s discuss a committee that deals with issues of innovation, pumping programs, to collaborate with private individuals and with other city agencies.”
The Mayor replied: “And we are a model for strays. The law provides for the creation of a committee, we have no objection, Mr. Troupis.”
Outside of the day, a question was raised about the first extension for the works at the Spiritual Center until 11/21/2024. “We have made a decision in the municipal committee. We are also bringing it to the city council,” said the Mayor.
Yiannis Smyrniotis said that “the project started with the proposal in 2018, the agreement was made in 2022 and in one year 10% has been done. It needs a more serious treatment. It needs some pressure. We vote for it.”
Vangelis Gourgaris asked about the project and said: “We commissioned the project without having secured the conditions that it will be worked on. The contractor has gone back. How much will it cost us?’
The Mayor replied that “he joined in 2018. In 2019, when we took over, the tendering process for the study of the project had not been done. It was completed at the end of 2022. Very soon, the tender was held and the contract was signed on 22/2/2023. It was a NSRF project with an implementation schedule of 18 months. To prevent the project from falling apart, the contractor came in more quickly. There was no rush, but there was this trick to not lose the funding. The contractor has made much more than 10%. An extension of a few months is being granted and we hope it will move quickly. Statutory review is not a huge amount.”
Yiannis Smyrniotis said that the management project has come and gone 6 times.
