Arbitrarily: With the “Mykonos method” fast track demolitions throughout Greece – Use of drones and satellites

With 90% of Mykonos’ businesses having complied with the demolition of arbitrary buildings, the government and the Ministry of the Interior will proceed with the same “model” and fast track procedures with its interventions in all the tourist areas of the country.

As ANT1 characteristically emphasizes, the visit of an echelon of the Ministry of Environment and Energy to Mykonos, one year after the observations in 13 businesses, saw that 90% complied and demolished arbitrary facilities, while the controls will continue so that there are no new violations.

Controls will be carried out in homes, tourism businesses and catering establishments.

The plan to combat arbitrariness

Artificial intelligence, satellites and drones have been put into the services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while the government implements rapid procedures to identify and demolish arbitrary buildings in tourist areas.

This control system aims to protect the environment and free access to beaches for tourists and is to be implemented throughout the country, where controls will begin to become more intensive.

As the channel emphasizes, in order to achieve the goals, there will be stricter observations and sanctions.

Demolition deadlines from the current two years will be reduced, while priority will be given to the demolition of new structures, after the “red line” of 2011.

At the same time, a special inspector will be established to control and suppress arbitrary construction, while the funding for demolitions will pass from the Decentralized to the Central Administration.

It should be emphasized that if the companies do not proceed with the demolitions and interventions within a time limit, they will face severe penalties, such as suspension of operations and interruption of electricity supply to the company.
