The mayor of Ioannina, Thomas Begas, informed the municipal council that there is so far no indication of a full concession of the camp of Velissario, to the Municipality of Ioannina.

The matter was brought up again by the president of the Parliament, Kostas Tasoula, with whom Mr. Begas said that he has taken a joint initiative to clarify the situation.

A few days ago, Mr. Tasoulas, after his meeting with the Deputy Minister of National Defense Yiannis Kefalogiannis, said that the concession of part of the camp is actually being considered.

Of course, a year ago, in the run-up to the elections, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was talking about “concession of the entire camp”, a promise which, so far, is backing off…

Mr. Begas also emphasized that an effort is being made to gather all the facts of the case and blamed the official opposition and that he will soon make sure to inform the body about what is happening.

“The correspondence that has existed until today probably does not lead to a result in favor of the Municipality,” the mayor emphasized.

Addressing Mr. Papageorgiou, he summoned him, citing a document (apparently from the relevant correspondence) of the “negotiating member from the Ministry of National Defense, which tells you in relation to public statements you made in the city council you have falsified the reality”.

Mr. Papageorgiou, for his part, denied that he has falsified the reality, that is, regarding the camp. He also challenged him to bring to the next municipal council, the relevant document he is citing.
