Clarifications on the status of the six-day work were given by the Deputy Minister of Labour, Vassilis Spanakis and the labor lawyer, Yiannis Karouzos, speaking to Newsbomb.gr

Clarifications on the six-day work regime, which in recent days seems to be causing great interest, as it is expected to affect thousands of workers, the Deputy Minister of Labor, Vassilis Spanakis, gave, speaking to Newsbomb.gr, clarifying that it does not concern DEKO, State and bank employees.

Specifically, Mr. Spanakis pointed out that the six-day work regime concerns the enterprises of the heavy private industry, such as, for example, the enterprises of brewing, water bottling, etc. He pointed out at the same time that the employee’s pay on the 6th working day will have a 40% increase, while if it is a holiday then the 75% rate will also be taken into account.

The platform for six days work in the ERGANI system is expected to open on the first day of July, where it will coincide with the implementation of the digital job card. Through this card, an automated check will be carried out, as overtime or overtime is not foreseen.

Which businesses favor the six-day work?

According to what the labor lawyer Yiannis Karouzos told Newsbomb.gr, the six-day work regime, based on the new law, is expected to solve several problems, especially in companies that are unable to find specialized staff. In fact, Yiannis Karouzos stated that the law 5053/2023 will favor companies that operate with a 24 hours a day and 7 days a week alternating shift schedule, and which do not find new specialized staff and as a consequence are unable to properly organize the shifts.

Also, the impossibility of finding staff in 24-hour but not continuous operation businesses that present an unpredictably increased workload is cured.

Who does the six-day work apply to?

According to the statements of Yannis Karouzos on Newsbomb.gr, the six-day work regime concerns businesses with continuous operation and employees who are employed for five days and 40 hours a week.

It should be noted that the employment on the sixth day is registered by the employer in the “ERGANI II” Information System before the employee starts work, while the employment on the sixth day cannot exceed 8 hours and overtime and overtime are prohibited . It is worth mentioning that a fee of 40% of that day’s salary is paid.

The claims of Vassilis Spanakis were confirmed by labor expert Yiannis Karouzos, who pointed out that the six-day work regime does not concern the State, DEKOs and banks.

The related platform comes on July 1st

It should be noted that according to information, tests are being carried out in PS ERGANI II and the application is not yet ready, although for some sectors it is acceptable the regulation is being considered to take effect from July 1st.

At the same time, it should be mentioned that in some sectors, such as catering, there is already a provision for 6-day work, however there is a special SSE, which regulates 6-day employment.

Finally, Yiannis Karouzos mentioned that there is still the “practice” in many businesses, which do not fall into the category of continuous operation, to employ workers illegally for a 6th day, where according to court decisions the relative remuneration of such employment is calculated with the rate of 30%.

The above refers to Article 8 of Law 3846/2010.
