The Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Christos Triandopoulos was welcomed by the Mayor of Eordaia at noon on Sunday, April 21, 2024, in the presence of ND Member of Parliament P.E. Kozani Michalis Papadopoulos and Deputy Mayors.

Initially, Mr. Papadopoulos welcomed Mr. Triandopoulos to the area and asked for his support, moral and financial, to the requests of the Municipality of Eordaia through the memorandums that have been submitted to him.

The Mayor of Eordaia raised a series of issues related to the field of civil protection, and specifically requested that the procedures to complete the payment of compensation to those affected by the flooding that hit areas of Eordaia on August 22, 2022 and in June of 2023.

Mr. Plakentas also requested the help of the Ministry for the restoration of the serious damage suffered by the Paleontological and Folklore Museum of Ptolemaida from the flood of August 2022, as well as funding for land improvement projects in the Municipal Unit of Mouriki, as, as he pointed out, with this project will achieve flood protection on the one hand as the area will be shielded from the waters of streams and torrents coming down from the surrounding mountains and on the other hand several thousand acres of tree crops and horticulture will be irrigated.

The Mayor made a special reference to the issue of the establishment and operation of the Civil Protection Regional Operational Center which has been located on the site of the former AEVAL fertilizer industry, on an area of ​​2,500 acres that has been granted by the Municipality of Eordaia for this purpose, stressing that the required procedures have been completed and all that remains is the issuance of a planning permit.

Finally, an increase in the funds was requested from the Ministry in order to enable the Municipality to contribute to the prevention of fires, and specifically to the creation of fire protection zones.

The Minister, who was accompanied by the General Secretary Rehabilitation Natural Disasters and State Aid, Petros Kambouris, he listened carefully to the requests made to him, pointed out that the Ministry attaches great importance to the issues of civil protection and especially to the issue of prevention from natural disasters and requested that an updated memorandum with the requests of the Municipality of Eordaia be sent to him immediately.
