“Greece is 2nd in the EU in food inflation in March with +5.4% when the European MO is only 1.2%”, says SYRIZA in a statement, adding that “the wave of negative food inflation is spreading in 8 countries, while Greece -5 months now- is in the top 2 high inflation.”
SYRIZA emphasizes that those who took measures based on the European Directive that allowed for the zeroing of VAT or the reduction of the super-minimum rate for basic goods, are now moving into negative food inflation, i.e. a reduction in prices (Portugal is typically -0.1% , Finland at – 1.3%). “This means that those in the ruling bloc who are hypnotizing the media audience with claims that prices are not going to return to the levels of previous years are deceiving the public. The beginning has already been made in 30% of the EU countries”, he comments.
SYRIZA reports that the bill is not coming out and, in particular, that “in Eurostat, 68% of Greeks in 2022 state that they are making ends meet very difficult or difficult”, while “only 19% of Europeans state something like this”. “Make no mistake, today’s bloody surpluses of 4.6 billion euros over the last two years, which are the sweat of the people in the struggle with accuracy, have a decisive contribution to this,” comments SYRIZA.
Finally, he states that he is “the only political entity that has tabled a series of comprehensive measures for accuracy (drastic measures to reduce VAT on basic items, reduce the VAT on fuel) and a tax scale for natural persons, combined with a reduction in contributions, which returns a/ one – and more – salaries and pensions to all citizens proportionally and relieves 98% of SME businesses with a 5% rate reduction”.
