Youth League: At the top of Europe, Olympiacos – The first Greek…

--

Unrepeatable triumph for him Olympic and for Greek football in general, as the “Red and White” Under 19 team won the Youth League, the equivalent of the Champions League, beating Milan 3-0 in Zurich.

Olympiacos is the first Greek club to win a European football championship.

The match was decided in less than ten minutes in the second half, when Olympiacos took a 3-0 lead with a penalty by Mouzakitis (60′), a shot by Papakanellos (61′) and an amazing “scissors” by Bakulas (66′).

The strong man of PAE Olympiacos Vangelis Marinakis closely watched the effort of the young team.

Completely dominant in the first half, Olympiacos is wronged for going to the locker room without having gained a lead. Raveri stopped Pneumonidis in the 3′, Papakanellos shot just wide in the 9′, while in the 38′ Sylaidopoulos’ players “hid the ball”. An unlikely combination of Mouzakitis, Pneumonidis, Koutsogoulas, Bakula and execution of the latter from an ideal position, but the shot was weak and easily neutralized by the Milan goalkeeper.

The appearance of Olympiakos for 45 minutes was the appearance of a European champion. The only question mark for the “red and whites” was whether they would be able to present an equally impressive image in the second half. In the first 20 seconds, Sia almost opened the scoring, but missed the projection by inches, while in the 53′ Cena made an incredible save on Scotty’s “shell” outside the area.

A little later, Olympiacos opened the scoring! In a claim in Milan’s area, the ball found Stalmach’s hand and the referee awarded a penalty after VAR intervention. Seconds later, in the 60th minute, Christos Mouzakitis executed the perfect penalty and made it 1-0 with his 6th goal of the tournament. Before Milan could recover from the shock, Antonis Papakanellos “emptied” Stalmach and scored 2-0 from a difficult position in the 61′. In the 66th minute, captain Thanos Koutsogoulas crossed from the right and Bakulas scored the third goal with an improbable reverse scissors and “cleared” the victory once and for all. Then Angelo Sina took it upon himself to keep the “nil” with amazing interventions, which deprived Milan of even the slightest right to hope.

A few moments later, Thanos Koutsogoulas lifted the trophy into the Swiss sky and with it Olympiakos and Greek development football.
