Tonight’s first meeting of the Board of Directors began with clarifications on what exactly the law provides, regarding “special accountability meetings”. Tripoli. A “regular” meeting will follow, after the completion of the “special” one.

Mr. Gourgarisrightly, pointed out that the “special meetings” are, in fact, degraded, as there is no provision for decision-making and a quorum is not even required for them to be held (p.s. Obviously, the continuous, in recent years, removal of powers from the Regional and Municipal Councils, continues uninterrupted, in another way, of course).

In any case, Mr. Gourgaris touched the issue of water resources management, referring to, as he characterized it, “the path towards the privatization of water”, which, according to him, is being implemented by government decisions. In addition, the head of the People’s Rally referred to irrigation projects that must be done in Lake Taka and which, as is known, have often been the subject of government or pre-election announcements.

Mr. Hatzopoulos, as having the relevant authority on behalf of the Municipal Authority, he referred to the tariff “policy” of the Municipality of Tripoli, especially to the practices used in order to avoid “overconsumption”, while he also referred to recent and future interventions in the water network of the city – giving emphasis, inevitably, on rural and semi-rural areas within the Municipality.

Mr. Angelakos, a member of Mr. Smyrniotis’ faction, he also raised the issue of the irrigation project in Lake Taka, proposing to set up a Municipal Committee of “pressure” towards the Region, with the aim of completing the project as soon as possible – if, as he said, the project is the responsibility of the Peloponnese Region.

Mr. Hasapis, Deputy Mayor of the primary sector, replied that indeed the project will be carried out by the Peloponnese Region, agreeing with Mr. Gourgaris that a significant decrease in water reserves is observed in Taka as well. Among other things, Mr. Hasapis praised the statements of the Regional Governor of the Peloponnese, Mr. Ptochos, who recently, in the context of the Peloponnese EXPO exhibition, announced that the project will enter the tender process soon.

It should be noted that Mr. Gourgaris declared that he was “justified” for the fact that he raised the issue, while the Mayor of Tripoli he described the issue as “interesting”, but considered that it is not related to the nature of the specific meeting, as the Municipality does not have competence regarding the projects in Taka, for example.

“It’s very good to make wishes, but anti-flooding projects, for example, are not a matter for the Municipality. The responsibility belongs to the Regions and the Ministries. Telling a Municipal Council that if it rains a lot we will become Volos, we know that. We can push but the responsibility does not lie with the Municipal Authority”, stressed Mr. Tzioumis.

Finally, the Mayor of Tripoli said that the mergers of the DEYA in Greece are not going to proceed as the government originally intended, a fact that was also confirmed by the relevant commitments of the responsible general secretary, at a recent conference of K.E.D.E.
