Noula Toumboulidou, during the accountability process of the regional authority on Monday afternoon, asked the reason for the Regional Authority’s agreement to the Strategic Environmental Impact Study (SEIA) for the National Hazardous Waste Management Plan (ESDEA 2020-2030) which makes the Western Region Macedonian official receiver of asbestos waste.
The Deputy Regional Governor for Tourism, Culture and Environment Ms. Polytimi Farmaki clarified that the ministry has not yet issued an opinion on the Regional Waste Management Plan for the Regional Waste Management Plan prepared by DIADYMA SA. 30,000 tons of asbestos will be managed by DIADYMA, 15,000 tons by PPC and 15,000 tons from the other municipalities of Western Macedonia. “This results from the PESDA and the acceptance of the provision for waste management only in Western Macedonia” as he pointed out, so there is “no degradation of the Region of Western Macedonia”. The asbestos waste will be managed by DIADYMA and will not be transported from other areas, as he said. In the Strategic Environmental Impact Study of PESDA, the actual consultation will be completed.
