At least 6 arrests in 2024 for piracy throughout Greece and multi-year imprisonments in dozens of cases.

A new extensive police operation against TV piracy took place in the past few days in Crete, proving that the authorities no longer tolerate the illegal use of pirated subscriptions and the lost state revenue of several million euros.

The operation, coordinated by the Electronic Crime Prosecution Directorate of Athens, resulted in the identification of several individuals involved in illegal TV piracy activities.

Authorities reportedly raided several homes and businesses in various areas of the island, locating and seizing illegal digital media and other equipment used to receive and rebroadcast pirated TV channels, as well as a digital customer log with names and addresses of end-users.

This action caused many ordinary users to throw the illegal boxes in the garbage, fearing that arrests would follow, as was done in the previous weeks in searches of the homes of ordinary end users in Thessaloniki.

It is noted that while we are already in the first half of 2024, 5 major police operations against TV piracy have been carried out, 6 arrests have been made throughout the territory and at the same time dozens of cases have been tried, with many years of imprisonment for those involved.

The impact of this operation reflects the growing fight against piracy and illegal use of intellectual property in Greece. The authorities have repeatedly underlined the seriousness of the problem and their commitment to fight this serious form of crime.

The illegal financial benefits found in all of these police operations against TV piracy are remarkable.

There is a lot of money laundering, buying and selling of movable and immovable property, virtual businesses and intense parallel criminality.
