A Turkish ATR-72 naval cooperation aircraft entered the Athens FIR, without filing a flight plan. An air traffic violation was recorded in the Athens FIR in the southeast Aegean area.

The Turkish aircraft was identified in accordance with international rules, according to standard practice, as it was made known by the GHETHA.

It should be noted that the violation of the Athens FIR occurred while the Pentagon was in progress talks between Greece and Turkey on Confidence Building Measures.

The Delegations were attended by ambassadors and high-ranking military officers and, as announced, the two sides discussed the course of implementation of the MoUs of 2024 and MoU activities for 2025.

The next meeting for the MOUs will be hosted by the Turkish side.

According to the data announced by GEETHA, the first quarter of 2024 (January – March) there have been a total of 14 violations of the Athens FIR by eight Turkish aircraft and no violation of Greek airspace by Turkish fighters.
