It continues big business of the Police, which began at dawn, for the arrest of the hooligans, involved in the deadly attack with a naval flare of the 31-year-old MAT police officer on December 7, 2023 in Rentis.
According to information from police sources, so far 64 people have been arrested, who are accused, among other things, of participating in criminal organizationwhile the file that has been filed includes 165 people.
In fact, among the people that the authorities have in their hands, it seems that there are also moral authors of the attack with George Lyggeridis as a victim. These are the organizers of the events in Rentis, the so-called “Iosif”, a leader of Thira 7, the 27-year-old manager trapper and the 36-year-old “Romano”.
Those arrested include the natural perpetrators, as well as people involved in at least ten other cases of incidents in sports venues.
Dozens of house searches have been carried out and various items of evidence have been seized, while the evidence that has emerged from the lifting of privacy of suspect communications and attachments, DNA results as well as from people who have submitted requests to be included in the witness protection program. There are several findings, such as clothing found in the homes of those arrested, which are identified with the videos of the attacks. DNA was also identified from burnt clothes that had been found in the toilets of the closed gym.
For the Rentis case, an 18-year-old man was arrested who had confess that it was he who had fired the naval flare which fatally struck the unfortunate policeman. Traces of gunpowder were found on him, while fingerprints and genetic material of his 16-year-old brother were found on the launcher of the fatal flare.
Who are the arrested?
According to police sources most of the arrested, according to their mapping, are leading members sports links, some of whom in the last 16 years have participated in dozens of incidents and attacks that took place in sports venues. There is a list of 200 people, involving five criminal organizations, fans of an equal number of football teams, of about 40 people each. According to the same sources, the leaders have been arrested, among them the organizers, the deputy leaders, the group leaders, the transmitters of the actions, the storekeepers of weapons and the people who made up the strike groups.
These individuals appear to be recruiting youths from fan links and such roving “armies” they take part in incidents in the stadiums, attacks on police officers and other criminal acts. From there, the recruits are “screened” for their potential to commit more serious crimes and join gangs. Greek Mafia.
Incidents of threats are recorded in the relevant list and attacks against referees and journalists (PSAT) over a decade. Among them are the threats received by the referee Tasos Papapetrou, who was the referee in the Volos-Olympiakos match, in which the recent episodes were recorded, and the incendiary device in the shop of the referee Andreas Gamaris last November.
What happened at the closed gym Melina Merkouri, on December 7, 2023 according to competent officers, was planned “retaliation” for what had developed four days earlier in Volos with the police forces.
