There is growing concern over alleged Chinese espionage activities in Britain

British police today charged two men with breaching the State Secrets Act by spying for China.

The two men, aged 32 and 29, are accused of providing information to China to the detriment of the UK. They will appear in court on Friday, the prosecutor’s office announced.

“This has been an extremely complex investigation into very serious allegations,” said Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Metropolitan Police’s Counter-Terrorism Directorate.

There is growing concern about alleged Chinese espionage activities in Britain, particularly after it emerged last year that a parliamentary researcher was arrested on suspicion of spying for China.

The government said at the time that Chinese spies were targeting British officials in sensitive political, defense and business positions in increasingly sophisticated operations to gain access to classified information.
