Today’s developments in the case of ELAS’s investigation into the fan violenceand specifically for the murderous attack on police officer Giorgos Lyggeridiswith naval flare at Rentioutside the stadium “Melina Merkouri” shoots, on December 7th.
The investigation ran all this time and the operation of ELAS is in full progress, as they are included in the case file more than 150 persons for involvement not only in the death of the policeman but also in other cases of fan violence. Those arrested will be brought before the prosecutor’s office on Tuesday to be formally charged with the serious charges.
According to ERT, the large police operation did not start early on Monday, but on Sunday afternoon from the city of Ioannina. One was arrested there by the moral authors of the murderous attack against the young policeman, who tried to escape abroad. He was probably fleeing to Albania.

What was found in the homes of the arrested
Investigations were then carried out and in Attica but also in other regions of Greece. So far 56 arrests have been made, among which they are the five moral authors and two leading membersi.e. the ones who gave the trigger for the attack against the MAT squads.
ERT reports that among those arrested is the 18-year-old’s brother, who had been apprehended from the first as a natural perpetrator, as it was he who had thrown the naval flare.
In addition to the Attica basin, investigations were carried out in Chania, Karditsa and Sparta. Among other things, they found at least two pistols, naval flare launchers, several flares, bats and also a radio tuned to the police frequency.
Clothes worn by some fans on the night of the attack on MAT police officers were also found.
It is recalled that the 31-year-old police officer passed away on December 27, after 20 days of hospitalization, after being seriously injured by a naval flare during incidents that took place outside the “Melina Merkouri” stadium in Rentis during during the volleyball match between Olympiakos and Panathinaikos.
