Those arrested will be brought before the prosecutor’s office on Tuesday to be formally charged with the serious charges.

Afterwards, investigations were carried out in Attica as well as in other regions of Greece. So far, 56 arrests have been made, among which are the five moral perpetrators and two leading members, that is, those who gave the trigger for the attack against the MAT squads.

Other information states that among those arrested is his eighteen-year-old brother, who was arrested from the first moment as a natural perpetrator, as he was the one who had thrown the naval flare.

In addition to the Attica basin, investigations were carried out in Chania, Karditsa and Sparta. According to information from ERT, at least two pistols, naval flare launchers, several flares, bats were found, but a radio tuned to the police frequency was found. Clothes worn by some fans on the night of the attack on MAT police officers were also found.

It is recalled that the 31-year-old police officer passed away on December 27, after 20 days in hospital, after being seriously injured by a naval flare that he had received during incidents that took place outside the “Melina Merkouri” stadium in Rentis during during the volleyball match between Olympiakos and Panathinaikos.

“To be punished, as they deserve”

“I want them to be punished, as they deserve”: The father of the 31-year-old police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis, who was the victim of the murderous attack with the naval flare in Rentis and ended up 20 days after his severe thigh injury, speaks of “justification”.

In the wake of dozens of arrests for the murder of his son during the dramatic events in Rentis last December, he said he was deeply moved by the arrests, speaking to reporters:

“I was waiting for this justice, I was promised it, I want them to be punished, as they deserve. It was a difficult day emotionally, a lot can be done, there are laws. It’s a justification, a principle, my justification, of course, whatever happens, it’s not going to happen.”

As for those arrested. he added that “he doesn’t want to face them, he doesn’t even want to see them”.

“I lost a son, a hero, I gained another family his platoon. His colleagues are all my sons, I was hugging my son in there” he declared tearfully.
