This morning Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was at Renti’s Vegetable Market, who was informed about the availability and prices of products in view of Easter.

The prime minister spoke to traders about the price trend, the operation of the supply chain and the investments that have been made in the area of storage and transportation of goods, for the benefit of consumers as well.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who was accompanied by the Minister of Development Kostas Skrekas, was also informed about the great interest that exists abroad for Greek products and about the qualitative advantages that Greek exports have in order to increase their penetration and share in markets outside Greece.

After completing his visit, the prime minister emphasized: “This is not the first time I have visited the Central Market of Athens here in Rentis and it will not be the last. At this juncture, these visits take on a special significance, as the effort continues so that Greek consumers can enjoy quality products at reasonable prices.”

“Strict controls on prices – Same or lower than last year”

“As the Minister of Development Kostas Skrekas said, the “Godfather’s Basket” starts today, while in a few days from now the “Easter Basket” will also start. We strive, with strict controls on the market, and always in consultation with the entire supply chain, to be able to offer consumers products that will be at prices corresponding to or even lower than last year’s.

And I am already happy to find that in a number of products – vegetables and fruits – we have prices that are lower than last year. And, of course, let me emphasize that the better the supply chain works, the more our suppliers invest in logistics infrastructure, the more this will ultimately result in better prices for our consumers.

We have said many times that the fight against accuracy is continuous. However, for the first time, we have encouraging signs that persistent food inflation also seems to be beginning to abate. And, as I said, on several products we now have price drops, which after all is what we are looking for in order to relieve the average household and, of course, so that we can all spend the Easter holidays with a smile and enjoying the best possible prices for the typical Easter products” added the prime minister.

Kostas Skrekas: Gradually the prices of fruit and vegetable products have started to decrease

The Minister of Development Kostas Skrekas noted: “The government’s effort to maintain affordable prices for households in view of the Easter table continues. We are not complacent. We see that gradually the prices of fruit and vegetable products have started to decline. Of course, the effort continues.

Today begins the “Godfather’s and Godmother’s Basket”, where we will give the possibility, with the products included, to the godparents to make our children happy during the Easter holidays”.

What will be included in the “Easter Basket”

“On Wednesday, the day after tomorrow, the “Basket” for the Easter festive table will also start, which will include lamb, buns and, of course, chocolate eggs, so that we can ensure affordable prices. Prices for lamb and goat which will be the same or even lower in the “Basket” compared to last year’s corresponding Easter season,” added the Minister of Development.

For his part, the managing director of the Central Markets and Fisheries Organization, Apostolos Apostolakos, said: “There is great availability and full sufficiency. Businesses are doing a lot of preparation so that at Easter there will be affordable products at all price levels compared to last year, as well as to European levels.”

Government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis, in briefing political editors, referred to the Prime Minister’s visit to Rentis Vegetable Market.

“A little while ago, the Prime Minister, during his visit to the Vegetable Market of Rentis, pointed out: “At this juncture, these visits are of particular importance, as the effort continues so that Greek consumers can enjoy quality products at reasonable prices.
We strive, with strict controls on the market and always in consultation with the entire supply chain, to be able to offer consumers products that will be at prices corresponding to or lower than last year’s.
We have said many times that the fight against accuracy is a constant fight. However, for the first time, we have encouraging signs that persistent food inflation seems to be beginning to abate and, as I said, we now have a drop in prices, which is ultimately what is needed in order to relieve the average household.”
