Young and old had the opportunity to travel back in time with impressive cars from another era yesterday morning in the Municipality of Oreokastro.
Unique antique cars participated in the event “Journey to history and culture”, organized by the Deputy Mayor of Modern Culture, Extroversion and Protection of Companion Animals and Philharmonic of the Municipality of Oriokastro and the Association of Historic Cars of Northern Greece, in collaboration with the Oriokastro Chamber of Commerce, on Community of New Philadelphia and the Cultural Association of New Philadelphia “Estia Philadelpheon”.
The starting point of the route was the square of Nea Filadelfia. The antique cars were parked in the square, delighting the residents, who gathered to see them up close.
“Antique cars are impressive. Through the event that we organized, our citizens had the opportunity to admire the collector vehicles up close, to be photographed in the driver’s seat and, at the same time, to highlight a beautiful route in our place”, said the mayor of Oreokastro, Pantelis Tsakiris.
The cars started a procession from New Filadelfia and then headed towards Petroto, where members of the Local Council treated the drivers to local delicacies, Meseo, Monolofos and Melissohori, to end up at Democracy Avenue in the center of Oreokastro. It is a route that includes points of historical and cultural interest and natural beauty.
The oldest car that took part in the route was a 1934 Morris Eight, while many other old and collectible models from Mercedes, BMW, Opel, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Chevrolet and even a military jeep impressed the citizens.
“We thank the members of the Association of Historic Cars of Northern Greece, who brought the unique cars to our Municipality, as well as those who helped make the event happen. The citizens were excited and happy,” said the deputy mayor of Contemporary Culture, Extroversion and Protection of Companion Animals and the Philharmonic, Evangelia Drossou.
Finally, the presidents of the Association of Historic Cars of Northern Greece, Tasos Kalfas, and of the Trade Association of Oriokastro, Vassilis Iakovides, greeted the event.
