A new survey brings to light the data on car theft in Europe, and by far the top of the list for the year 2021 were two countries: France and Italy, with more than 100 thousand robberies.

According to data from Europe’s transport ministries collected by LoJack, an alarm sales company, in France there were 122,700 thefts cars and in Italy 110,171, while the third country in the relevant table – Germany – is far away, with 39,172 incidents.

Greece is in 8th place in the relevant table, with 14,896 thefts during 2021, behind the aforementioned three as well as Turkey (33,161), the Netherlands (22,060), Spain (20,292) and Sweden (18,599).

The list of specific research includes; 21 countries of the European Unionat the end of which are the Croatia and Serbia with 685 and 614 steals respectively.

LoJack’s research focused on Italy, where it found that thefts there were on the rise an increase of 7% compared to 2020 (in the two years of the pandemic, we remind you), but 44% of stolen cars were subsequently located from the beginning. A total of 57,938 vehicles.

According to the same research, also in Italy in the decade 2013-’23 1.55 million vehicles were stolen (cars, motorcycles, vans) and 609,000 of them were identified. One in three cars that fell into the hands of robbers had the keyless system of contactless entry and engine activation, which pirates access with an electronic device they buy online for a few euros.
