Larissa Police Union: It is not possible for them to seek profit from the Tempe tragedy

A statement from the Larissa Police Union states the following:

“From the first moment that the unspeakable tragedy occurred in Tempi with the collision of the two trains and its dramatic consequences, the Greek Police, and more specifically the police officers of the Larissa Police Department, overdid themselves, at all levels, offering maximum services, far out of the public eye, with only the sacred duty and respect for the dead, the wounded, their families, and the administration of justice.

The Hellenic Police has received congratulations from many agencies, but also from the families of the victims themselves, for the multi-level services it offered and continues to offer.

We have arrived today, more than a year after the tragedy, where the Larissa Police Directorate has more than 20 police officers every day to guard the premises where valuable evidence is kept, for the judicial investigation. But with surprise, anger and indignation, we were informed by printed and electronic media that the National Defense Fund (TETHA) is asking for rent to transport the wreckage of the two trains to a camp!

We want to believe that some mistake has been made and that it is not possible that some bureaucrats are looking to profit from this tragedy…. At this point, let us mention that although in article 22 of Law 3938)2011, remuneration of the Hellenic Police for services to third parties is provided for, we as an organization have never considered and will never ask for any remuneration.

We continue unflinchingly, to offer our services wherever and as long as needed, with faith in duty and with respect to the memory of the deceased victims.

We expect the Ministry of National Defense, to which TETHA belongs, to deny that there are rent claims and to immediately offer, GUARDED space in a camp in Larissa, as a contribution to this drama that continues to shock the Country”.
