The “Vision for Western Achaia” Faction and its leader, Angelos Stergiopoulos, are sounding the alarm about the tragic situation in which the beaches and forests of Western Achaia are, calling on the municipal authority of Alexopoulos to start, even if belatedly , the work required in view of the summer season. At the same time, he is asking for an extraordinary convocation of the Municipal Council on this issue.
A group of executives of the major opposition, proceeded to conduct an autopsy on the beaches and forest areas of our region, establishing the absolute lack of forethought of the Municipality of Western Achaia and the complete absence of its services.
The situation on the beaches is indescribable, as seen in Alissos, Kato Achaia, Bouka, Alykes, Niforeika, Lakopetra, Kalogria, Kalamaki and Gianiskari.
On the other hand, the forest areas in mountainous Olenia, Movri, Santameri, Mitopolis, Floka etc. they remain without maintenance of the already existing fire zones and without the creation of new ones, without maintenance, improvement and deforestation of roads and forest roads.
“The beaches remain dirty, inhospitable, with garbage, plastics and rubble, without the obvious infrastructure for bathers and without any provision and planning by the Municipality” noted Angelos Stergiopoulos, to add:
“A similar situation prevails in the natural lungs of our region, which have not been deforested, no fire protection zones have been created, nor safety zones around the settlements.
The fire season starts in a few days, specifically on May 1. However, Mr. Alexopoulos has not done the slightest thing! The incompetence displayed by the Municipal Authority of Western Achaia is tragic and we hope it will not turn out to be catastrophic!”
The head of the “Vision for Western Achaia” Faction invited Mr. Alexopoulos to assume his responsibilities:
“We publicly call on the Mayor of Western Achaia, even if only to the extent of five, to finally mobilize!
We request the convening of an extraordinary Municipal Council, to discuss the desperate situation that prevails in the forests and beaches of our Municipality.
So that we don’t relive the nightmarish moments of 2017, with the big fire in Arla, which caused a huge blow to the region and its residents.
Any further delay by Mr. Alexopoulos will be tragic! We hope it won’t be fatal!”
