Coastal erosion and TEBA in the Regional Council

--

Two more issues at the special meeting of the Regional Council of Western Greece for the 2nd accountability of the regional Authority, brought by the regional faction of the major minority “New Western Greece”.

The first was filed by the head of the faction, Spyros Skiadaresi, and concerns coastal erosion, stating that “because the issue of coastal erosion is quite serious, affecting property and tourism, and in view of the summer season, we ask that the House be informed about what is the progress of restoration and coastal erosion projects in areas of P.E. Achaia and specifically, dealing with the Erosion of the Coasts of Monodendri – Vrachnaiki – Tsoukalaiiki, of the Municipality of Patreon, the protection of the Kalamaki Coast of the Municipality of Western Achaia, and the Restoration of the coastal zone of Rio – Agios Vassiliou, of the Municipality of Patreon”.

The second matter was filed by the regional councilor P.E. Achaias, Fani Adamopoulos and concerns the Operational Program of the Fund for Food Aid to the Needy (TEBA/FEAD). As Mr. Adamopoulos mentions “through the Operational Program of the Fund for Food Aid to the Needy (TEBA/FEAD), food and items of basic material assistance were distributed to our suffering fellow citizens, who were deprived
of income and were below the poverty line. The above Program concerned the programming period 2014-2020 and was extended until 31.12.2023. From 01.01.2024, all benefits to the weak have been stopped
categories of our fellow citizens. You know very well that the Region of Western Greece is in second place nationwide with a percentage of 35.2% among the Regions with the highest percentage of residents at risk of poverty, according to EL.STAT data. for the year 2023. The national average is 26.1%. Consequently, any delay in supporting economically weak citizens increases their inequalities and social exclusion.

We request information on the actions taken by the Region of Western Greece for its inclusion in the new Program announced by the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family and starting on 01.01.2024? What criteria are used to decide whether or not to join?

In case of inclusion, what is estimated to be the timetable for the supply of the products and their distribution to the final beneficiaries?

In case of non-integration, is there an alternative form of assistance from the Region of Western Greece for the thousands of our fellow citizens who until now enjoyed the benefits of the above Program?”.
