A major operation by the Greek police has been underway since Monday morning to arrest people involved in the deadly attack with a naval flare against the 31-year-old MAT police officer on December 7, 2023 in Rentis.

According to ELAS, dozens of people have been arrested so far, as well as a large number of searches in houses and vehicles, from which various items of evidence have been confiscated.

As ERT broadcasts, more than 50 people have been arrested so far, with the number of wanted people reaching more than 60 people and the operation continues. According to information, the case file that has been filed has more than 150 defendants.

All of them face charges, among other things, of participation in a criminal organization, while the case file does not only concern Rentis’ case but also other fan incidents in which those involved had an organizational and executive role.

The 31-year-old police officer passed away on December 27, after 20 days in hospital, after being seriously injured by a naval flare during incidents that took place outside the “Melina Merkouri” stadium in Renti during the volleyball match between Olympiakos and Panathinaikos.
