To the Parliament by Eleni Vatsina, the request of TOEB for non-privatization of irrigation water

Eleni Vatsina, Heraklion PASOK member of parliament, brings the strong reactions to the privatization of irrigation water to the Parliament.

Mrs. Vatsina submitted as a reference to the Ministers of Rural Development & Food and Environment & Energy a document with the requests of the TOEB of Heraklion, asking for her part not to hand over the infrastructure of the irrigation project to private individuals, as provided for in a bill that was put into consultation and which abolishes the Non-Profit Organizations of Vascular Improvements (NPOs) of Thessaly “obviously as a first step for the expansion of the regulation in corresponding forms throughout Greece”.

The MP notes that “in Crete, especially in Heraklion, the managements of the TOEBs take care of their operation and the management of their income and expenses without pay, while they are literally close to the irrigation project, knowing the real needs of the producers and actively monitoring its operation”.

At the same time he emphasizes that “any assignment of management to a private company will bring about irreparable changes in financial management with the consequence of the financial burden on the people who have supported the irrigation project for years and who have made sure that TOEB are perfect organizations until today”.
