By the end of May, all proposals will have been incorporated and in June the first invitations for the research-innovation and entrepreneurship actions of NSRF Thessaly 2021-2027 are expected to be issued. The actions have a total public expenditure budget of 70 million euros.

This was announced by the Governor of Thessaly, Dimitris Kouretas, from Karditsa, where the first of the four consultation days launched by the Region was held with the aim of recording the views of businesses, organizations and citizens and taking them into account in the formulation of actions for entrepreneurship and the Innovation-Research of the Regional Program “Thessaly” 2021-2027. The regional governor of Thessaly, Mr. Dimitris Kouretas, speaking at the conference, emphasized that “the development of the Region is the basic vision of the regional authority. Especially Karditsa must gain the “lost ground”. At the same time, he praised the consultation process, given that based on the current NSRF 2021-2027 and in particular those related to the Regional Innovation Smart Specialization Strategy (RIS3), an action to be able to be financed must have arisen from the specific process.
Challenges and goals
in the field of Agri-Food
At the conference, scientists and officials of the Region of Thessaly presented their proposals and the actions that will be announced in the next period for interventions that should be strengthened as a priority and with intensity during the next programming period through the Thessaly Program 2021-2027 in the Agri-Food Complex, in order to support its further competitiveness in terms of improving added value, exports, participation in international value chains, job creation and transformation towards knowledge-intensive activities.
The main challenges identified for the Agri-Food Complex in Thessaly with a horizon of 2030 are as follows: Development of innovative food and beverages and overall improvement of the sector’s competitiveness. Supporting the primary sector for medium-term adaptation to climate change and long-term containment of its effects. Digital Transformation of the Food and Beverage Industry, and its incremental expansion up the value chains. Strengthening the application of the principles of sustainability and the circular economy in all the value chains of the agro-food complex to produce products with fewer resources (such as water, energy, fertilisation), zero waste at all stages of production and after the end of the life cycle of products. Ensuring food sufficiency and security. Increasing the productivity of plant and animal production while reducing costs. Addressing competition for high-productivity land coverage by renewable energy production units.
The first day in Karditsa had as its main topics Agri-Food and Sustainability-Resilience-Visibility. Until the end of April, three more days will be held in Volos, Trikala and Larissa. In Larissa, it will be held on Tuesday, April 30 (17.00 – 21.00) at the JOIST Innovation Park on the subject of Agri-Food and Biosciences-Pharmaceuticals-Health.
It should be noted that by the Regional Research and Innovation Council, seven Basic Documents have been drawn up by groups of experts and business representatives, which are available ahead of the consultation days from the website of the Region of Thessaly at the link https://www.thessaly. gov.gr/enimerosi/anakoinosi/5556. Pre-registration is mandatory for all participants and is done exclusively online at https://forms.gle/jFbfURmEEC5Sh3M18.
