AMKE Friends of the Andros Festival, as part of the spring activities for the 10 years of the Andros Festival, in collaboration with HELMEPA, presents the action in Primary (4th, 5th, 6th grade) and High Schools of the island BLUE LIFE ANDROS, from April 23 to 25, 2024.

In the context of BLUE LIFE ANDROS, certified and specially trained HELMEPA officials will visit the schools that have accepted to join the action and will present/discuss with the students topics such as marine pollution, climate change, sea professions, job prospects of young people in the blue economy, the global goals of sustainable development, etc.

Specifically, the presentations that will be made in the schools of Andros are:

▪ The sea is life

Presentation on the contribution of the marine environment to our lives, the risks it faces and ways to protect it.

▪ Sustainable Development

Update on the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.

▪ Professions of the sea

Presentation during which students will be given the opportunity to learn more about the ever-growing industry of the Blue Economy and the prospect of employment in the professions of the sea.

Tuesday, April 23-Country

The presentations will take place at the Municipal Theater of Chora, at 09.30 for the Elementary School of Chora and at 11.00 for the Gymnasium of Chora.

This will be followed by a cleaning of the coasts with the participation of Primary school students.

Wednesday, April 24-Gavrio

At Gavrio Primary School, at 09.30 there will be a presentation for the students of Gavrio and Batsi Primary Schools.

At the Gavrio High School, at 09.30 there will be a presentation for the students of the Gavrio High School.

Afterwards, a group of divers will clean the bottom of the port, in the presence of the students.

Thursday, April 25-Korthi

The presentations will take place at 09.30 for Korthio Primary School at the I. Glynos Conference Center and at 11.45 for Korthio Gymnasium, on the school grounds.

This will be followed by a cleaning of the coasts with the participation of the students.

A few words about her HELMEPA

HELMEPA is the Hellenic Association for the Protection of the Marine Environment, one of the most historic environmental organizations, which for 41 years has been at the forefront of the protection of seas and coasts, safety at sea and sustainable development and sustainability.

To date, more than 450,000 students have visited its exhibitions and 144,500 students (from 4,449 schools) have participated in 45,000 environmental actions, together with 9,293 teacher-volunteers.

Driven by the continuous inspiration of volunteerism and allied with its emblematic Seagull, HELMEPA has coordinated 4,200 coastal and seabed cleanups in collaboration with our member companies, schools, OTAs, Port Authorities, diving centers, cultural-sports clubs and environmental organizations.
