The phone call with the traffic monkey from Bulgaria…

The Livadeia Security Department, in collaboration with the Directorate of International Police Cooperation of the Hellenic Police Headquarters, as well as the Bulgarian Authorities, solved a case of fraud against an elderly woman, which was committed in the morning hours of 01-06-2024 in Livadeia.

For the fraud, four foreigners (two men and two women) were identified, members of a criminal group, against whom a relevant criminal case was filed, while the identity of another member is being investigated.

The fraudsters had called the elderly woman pretending to be doctors, confusing her with what they said about her child being injured in a car accident. In order to save her life, they asked for 20,000 euros. She handed over the amount herself to two of the perpetrators, following instructions they gave her.

As the police report notes, a member of the group who is usually located in Bulgaria or another Balkan country, calls the victims undercover on their landline, then calls them on their mobile phone, which the victims themselves have disclosed, with with the ultimate goal of blocking them, so that they cannot call and confirm what the perpetrators said and, by extension, they cannot immediately notify the Police Authorities.

The way they escape after receiving the money is through I.X.E. car, while seeking to leave Greece on the same day, in order to avoid detection and arrest.

We note that on the same day (6/1/24) in Lamia it had taken place the arrest of three young women, who had gone to the area to collect 30,000 euros from another elderly woman. At the time, the Security Directorate of Lamia had examined whether the two incidents were connected, however, the Livadia case had foreign collectors.

The investigation continues in order to fully determine the action of the criminal group, as well as all the involved members – their accomplices.
