THE Dominic West revealed that the scandal with Lily James it was “Deeply stressful” for his wife Kathryn as she shared for the first time her reaction to the photos being released.
In October 2020, James and West were captured enjoying two days in Rome and sharing kisses. Following the release of the photos, which caused an uproar as West, 54, was married, the actor released a joint statement with his wife in which they claimed they were “still together”.
His wife, Kathryn, is also said to have banned West from speaking to the 35-year-old actress at the time, as part of an agreement the couple made.
In an interview with the Sunday Times’ Culture Magazine, West said: “I hesitate to speak for my wife because it was obviously horrible, especially for her.” and added: “But we joke about it sometimes… It was an absurd situation. It was very stressful for my wife and children, but there were also happier times. That was the best thing that came out of it, really.”
The actor also shared that the media frenzy surrounding the incident helped him portray Prince Charles in the final two seasons of Netflix’s The Crown. During his time as Charles he played some of the most prominent moments of the current king’s life, including his relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles.
West stated: “I had a very deep understanding of what it’s like to feel the horror of having your name or picture in the papers. There’s that awesome moment where you freeze when something is revealed about you. I think everyone can understand how you feel. But the fact that I had been through that too must have helped me in how I approached it [τον ρόλο]. That feeling of dread is not something you get used to.”
